On this Veterans Day we hear from two men who served their country and are now featured in a new book of remembrances by Chicago-area veterans. The book, “I Remember: Chicago Veterans of War,” features the memories of 50 veterans who served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Undergrounders, the above comes from WTTW Chicago (which you may know as Channel 11). In the clip, Dept of English professor and editor of the anthology Chris Green talks to Eddie Arruza.

The segment was pitched by a member of the Big Shoulders Books/Publicity class on Topics in Publishing.

Big Shoulders Books Launches ‘I Remember: Chicago Veterans of War’, Edited by DePaul Professor Chris Green | November 11th, 2015

This Veterans’ Day, DePaul’s own Big Shoulders Books will celebrate the launch of I Remember: Chicago Veterans of War, an anthology that collects the voices of Chicago-area war vets. Big Shoulders is a press affiliated with the DePaul Department of English that aims to produce one book each year that engages intimately with the Chicago community and, in the process, give graduate students in DePaul University’s Master of Arts in Writing and Publishing program hands-on, practical experience in book publishing.

I Remember

The goal of Big Shoulders Books is to disseminate, free of charge, quality anthologies of writing by and about Chicagoans whose voices might not otherwise be shared.

It’s fitting, then, that I Remember seeks to allow the voices of veterans to be heard; too often, we are quick to honor those who have served in the branches of our military but not as quick to really sit down and listen to what they have to say about their experiences.

The most amazing thing about BSB and its releases? They’re totally free of charge! Order yours here if you can’t make the launch this Wednesday, November 11th!
