Call for Papers – Academic and Creative

The 7th Annual Spring English Conference
Hosted by Students of the Department of English

The DePaul English Department invites you to participate in our seventh annual student-run conference. The Spring English Conference (SPEC) will be held on the afternoon of Friday, April 29, 2016, in Arts & Letters Hall. The Spring English Conference is an annual daylong event in which undergraduate and graduate students present papers and talks as part of panels. The presentations may be in (but are not limited to) the following academic and creative areas:

              Fiction
               Creative Nonfiction
               Poetry
               Literary Analysis
               Pedagogical and Literary Theory
               Publishing, Professional, and Teaching Practices

The DePaul English conference is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their work in front of a positive, supportive community of DePaul faculty and peers. If you have never publicly read your work before, consider this student-run conference. We look forward to making it a rewarding event for everyone involved!

SAVE THE DATE for the 2016 Spring English Conference! April 29, 2016

Undergrads – it’s that time of year again! The Spring English Conference is upon us again. As you may or may not know, it’s open to both undergrad and grad students at DePaul and is a daylong event dedicated to panels and talks that represent the academic AND creative work English students have done this year!

The possibilities are endless for presentations, panels, talks, and anything else. The deadline for submissions (abstracts at the minimum) will be April 1st.

The conference will be held during the day on Friday, April 29.

Join Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society!

DePaul’s Gamma Psi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, The National English Honor Society, will elect new members in spring 2016. English Majors and Minors, graduate and undergraduate, are eligible to apply provided they have completed one course beyond English 120 (or equivalent) and have  a G.P.A. of 3.4 or better.

To apply, please complete this application form in Word format [not PDF] and return it electronically to Professor Murphy, Department of English, by 15 February, 2016. Email it as an attachment to jmurphy5@depaul.edu writing ‘Sigma Tau Delta’ application in the subject line. Applicants’ GPAs will be checked out and those who qualify will later be asked to supply a $40 lifetime membership fee.

Some basics on Sigma Tau Delta:

  • English honor society for students at accredited colleges and universities that grant baccalaureate or higher degrees
  • Established in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language, literature, and writing
  • Dedicated to fostering literacy and all aspects of the discipline of English
  • The second largest member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS)
  • Over 875 local chapters in the U.S. and abroad—and growing.
