Creating Knowledge Essay Competition

pencil-2026452_1280The English department is now seeking submissions for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ annual student research journal, Creating Knowledge. Faculty members from the English department will choose one essay to represent the department in this year’s publication.

If you would like to have your essay considered for publication, please email a copy of your paper as a Word document to Professor Jennifer Conary at jconary1@depaul.edu by 6:00 pm on  May 1st; please include your full name and student ID number in the body of the email.

Your essay must meet the following requirements:

  • Include original research using primary and/or secondary sources; papers written in Research Intensive courses or for the Newberry Seminar would be excellent options
  • Have been written in a course in the English department or the Newberry Seminar
  • Be under 5,000 words
  • Be formatted according to MLA standards and include a works cited page

English students! Do you have a stellar research paper you’ve written for a DPU English class or Newberry Library Seminar? Would you like to see your research in print? The English Dept has extended the deadline for submissions to Creating Knowledge. You may submit your work until MIDNIGHT tonight, Friday, May 6th.

The English Department seeks submissions for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ annual student research journal, Creating Knowledge. If you aren’t aware of Creating Knowledge, learn more about the publication here. It’s a great opportunity for students to get their work recognized and published in a university-wide setting, and it looks wonderful on a CV!

Submit Art and Literary Research to Creating Knowledge, The College of Liberal Arts & Social Science’s Annual Student Research Journal

Creating Knowledge is the annual publication of undergraduate scholarship published by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.  Each home unit in the college has the right to include an example of student written work in the journal.

Creating Knowledge also provides a venue for the best work of our student artists.  Any DePaul undergraduate student who is a major or a minor in any department/program of LAS is eligible to submit their art work for possible inclusion in the journal.  The following timeline is in place.  Please feel free to share this information with your students.

2015 Creating Knowledge Art Submission Schedule:

April                       Call for artwork via the Slideroom application (see below)

May 5th               Submission deadline for student artworks. Please note that this is earlier than the June 30th deadline for   written work from departments and programs.

May 6-15             Jurors select artworks & selected artworks sent to designer for review

May 30                 Deadline for selected student artists to submit high resolution images

June 15                Designer and jurors confirm selected artwork. Notify students that their artworks are selected for the     publication.

Thus a student who wishes to submit their artwork needs to visit this website:

Once there the student should select “Creating Knowledge 2015” and then “Sign Up” or “Log In” to the system, and then enter the requested information. After a short delay the student will receive an email confirmation that their account has been activated and that they may now use the system.  At that point they may log on and enter their submissions.  Students are limited to one (1) submission of up to five (5) images.  Subject matter and medium are open. The deadline for student art submissions is May 5, 2015.
