Summer Job Opportunity: AmeriCorps and Northwestern Settlement

AmeriCorps and Northwestern Settlement are searching for individuals for two of their summer positions. Descriptions below:

AmeriCorps Member Camp Counselor (Seasonal June 29-Aug 16; Living Stipend and Education Award) – This position is only available for current students as it includes an education award. The Junior AmeriCorps members will be in charge of working with the campers on devising/producing their production. They will supervise campers and lead daily activities, working closely with Teaching Artists to design and implement lesson plans.

Co-Lead Teaching Artist (seasonal, 30/hr (June 29-Aug.16) +$500 planning stipend before camp starts) – Co Lead Teaching Artists plan and implement all programming during the day for an ensemble of 30 students ages 9-14. Through drama activities, discussions and field trips, Trailblazer Campers will devise their own performance to present at the end of the 7 weeks. Teaching Artists guide this process along.

Summer Internship Opportunity

Help to build workshops that focus on creating equitable environments for diverse learners. Research best practices for developmental education. Aim to create scaffolding opportunities for learning objectives.

In turn, the intern will learn to investigate the following areas:

Learn how to craft lesson plans, organize coursework, and build a syllabus that emphasize student engagement and rhetorical application. Discuss and develop teaching philosophy.

Interns will meet with Alye face-to-face at least three times over the summer session.

Creative Writing Fellowship Opportunity

The Creative Writing Fellowship awards two $7,500 Luminarts Fellowships for excellence in creative writing in the categories of prose and poetry, in fiction and nonfiction. Applicants submit a two-page written piece (either a stand-alone piece or an excerpt of a larger piece such as a novel or short story). Entries are submitted and reviewed by an initial panel of jurors. Once reviewed, all top entries go to the final juror panel and the winners are selected. Jurors are comprised of professional authors, novelists, and poets, literary contributors, publishers, editors, journalists and media contributors. Click here for complete guidelines and to apply.
