Furrow accepts unpublished poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art, and comics by undergraduate students from anywhere in the U.S. They award $100 prizes to the top submission in each genre. Selection is competitive. In their last issue, out of over 1,000 submissions from 41 states, they featured work from 44 student authors and artists. They produce a professional-quality, full-color journal each May and feature new work each month on their website, www.furrowmag.org.
To be eligible for publication in the next issue (May 2019), you must be be enrolled as an undergraduate at any U.S. college or university during any semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. Furrow will accept submissions from Dec. 1, 2018 to Feb. 20, 2019.
Please leave your name off all pages/images. Submissions are judged anonymously.
Poetry: Submit up to 5 poems, as separate files.
Fiction: Submit only 1 story, up to 5000 words, double-spaced
Nonfiction: Submit only 1 essay, up to 5000 words, double-spaced
Art: Submit up to 5 images, preferably <3MB each, with a white or transparent background
Comics: Submit up to 10 pages (we prefer black & white for comics but will consider color comics)
