Chicago Shakespeare Seeking Education Department Intern

defaultThis internship with Chicago Shakespeare provides an opportunity to spend a number of weeks researching a play, its historical and social context, its publication and production history, and its critical history—and to publish online for hundreds of teachers using this resource each year.

An invaluable experience for students considering writing as part of their future career, they will work with a professional editor throughout the internship. The work leads to an online publication of essays and teaching activities—central components to Chicago Shakespeare’s handbooks, typically one hundred pages in length. In addition to the research and writing component, education interns are also immersed in the day-to-day work of the department, which is varied as they move through the season.

A background in Shakespeare, early modern drama, or performance studies is certainly helpful—but is not a pre-requisite. What is required in a qualified candidate is a passion and acumen for research, for distillation of complex ideas, and for writing accessibly and thoughtfully—and, ideally, creatively in the structure of an expository form.

Candidates are asked to submit samples of writing, along with their cover letter, CV, and letters of recommendation.
