Welcome back, English students!

The Underground would like to welcome English undergraduate students to the 2015-2016 Academic Year! We hope you had a wonderful summer, and we are glad to have students old and new back on campus for what is sure to be another fantastic year marked by a number of great English events.

  • Mark your calendars for the English Department Open House, coming up in a week on September 16th. The Open House will be a great chance to speak with faculty and staff about the opportunities available to you and enjoy light refreshments.
  • Also coming up in Week 2 is the Department of English Literary Studies Speakers Series, which presents Professor Paula McQuade and “‘As Say Historians’: Prophecy, Orality, and Community in Mary Cary’s The Resurrection of the Witnesses (1653),” material from her recently completed book, Women and Catechisms in Seventeenth-Century England. The event will be held Friday, September 18th at 11am in Arts & Letters Hall. Stay tuned for a full post on this event coming in the next few days.
  • Save the date for the third installment of the English Department Book Club, which will read George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series and hold a discussions led by Profs Bartlett and Hovey. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 30th at 6pm. We’ll have more details and plenty of reminders for this at the event draws nearer!

That’s all for now! Have a great first week back!
