Working in the Schools (WITS) Seeking Volunteers

The WITS tutoring and mentoring program is looking for English student, staff, and faculty volunteers for the Fall Quarter. As a volunteer, you’d meet weekly with a Chicago Public School 4th or 5th grade student on Thursday afternoons in Arts & Letters Hall from 4:00 to 5:00.

Volunteers read, work on homework, and build a relationship with the same student over the course of the quarter. Students love the one-on-one attention and the opportunity to see a university campus. It’s a great English-related way to offer a little of your time.

The program begins September 18th with a training session from 4:00-5:00. If you’re interested in finding out more or want to sign up, please email Matt Smrekar (
