Visiting Writer Arrives This Tuesday!

The final Visiting Writers’ event of the year has come.  Join Cristina Henriquez  on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 6 p.m., Richardson 115.

Henriquez’s new novel, The Book of Unknown Americans, launches next week. DePaul is the first stop on this Chicago author’s 13-city book tour for what is sure to be her breakout book.

Cristina Henríquez is the author of The Book of Unknown AmericansThe World In Half, and Come Together, Fall Apart: A Novella and Stories, which was a New York Times Editors’ Choice selection. Her stories have been published in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Glimmer Train, The American Scholar, Ploughshares, TriQuarterly, and AGNI, among others. She was featured in Virginia Quarterly Review as one of “Fiction’s New Luminaries,” has been a guest on National Public Radio, and is a recipient of the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation Award, a grant started by Sandra Cisneros in honor of her father.

In a starred review of The Book of Unknown Americans, Donna Seaman wrote in Booklist: “Each scene, voice, misunderstanding, and alliance is beautifully realized and brimming with feeling in the acclaimed Henríquez’s compassionately imagined, gently comedic, and profoundly wrenching novel of big dreams and crushing reality, courageous love and unfathomable heartbreak.”

Cristina earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She lives in Chicago.
