The Summer Schedule has been updated. ENG 309 has gone from Writing for Magazines to Snapshots of the City. The course will still be taught by Prof Anton and the new course description is below:
This is a course in the urban essay, or writing and reading a city as a rich text. Students learn the urban magazine tradition, going back to portraits of Paris and St. Petersburg, London and New York, up through the evolution of contemporary Chicago. We cover writers like Dickens, Hecht, Terkel, Tarbell, Brooks and others. We learn some of the techniques of urban magazine writing. Students write one sketch, feature, one exam and one author report.
